Celebrating International Project Management Day: Insights from our National Project Manager

Thursday, 7 November marks International Project Management Day, a time to acknowledge the dedication and expertise of project managers worldwide. This day also encourages them to share insights and learn from each other’s experiences. In recognition, we did a quick Q&A with Jesse Palmer, our National Project Manager.

Q & A with Jesse Palmer:

How long have you worked at NPSG Australia?
Five years this month.

Can you share a bit about your journey in project management and what brought you to NPSG Australia?
I started at the ground level and worked my way up. I’ve always aimed to keep advancing, putting in the effort and commitment to reach new levels.

What do you believe are the most critical skills for a project manager in the logistics and fit-out industry?
Adaptability. Logistics is fast-paced by nature, but with new project launches, shifting objectives, and overlapping timelines, being able to adapt quickly is essential.

What trends or innovations in project management do you think will shape the future of logistics and commercial fit-outs?
Automation. With the labor market challenges in Australia, companies are increasingly turning to automation and robotics to streamline repetitive tasks and boost efficiency.

How do you foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among project managers within the NPSG team and beyond?
I maintain open lines of communication, no question is off-limits, and we’re committed to sharing knowledge openly.

Top tip for being an effective project manager?
Learn to trust your team. You don’t need to control every detail to lead effectively.

Most satisfying moment as a project manager?
Seeing a project completed successfully from start to finish.
