All in a Day’s Work: Life on the ground in Singapore
Photo: Sentosa Island.
Chris Coote and Jaiden Shaw are currently in Singapore, working on a 12-week project in Jurong East. While the work keeps them busy, they’re also adjusting to life in a new city, getting used to the tropical climate, trying local food, and making the most of their weekends to explore.
For Chris, this isn’t his first time in Singapore, but for Jaiden, it’s a new experience. Being overseas for the first time was an initial challenge, especially adjusting to life away from home, but after settling in, the experience has been both rewarding and eye opening.
A Typical Workday
Their mornings start at 6:30am with coffee before taking a Grab ride to work. A full 8 hour day is spent on site which is air conditioned. Evenings are often spent back at their apartment, where they cook most meals, though they’ve enjoyed sampling local dishes. Jaiden has taken a particular liking to ramen, while both have been exploring different cuisines whenever they get the chance.

The Project: Relocating and Consolidating
The project involves relocating and consolidating an existing facility, shifting operations from Level 3 to a smaller space on Level 2 of the same building. The work is progressing through three key phases:
Phase 1: Preparing the New Space
The first stage involved clearing out Level 2, removing old materials, disposing of unused furniture, and relaying 5S tape to fit the new layout.
Phase 2: The Main Move (Currently in progress)
This is the most complex phase, requiring the careful relocation of workstations, shelving, team leader desks, office spaces, the break room, and even the facility’s front entrance—all while keeping the warehouse fully operational.
Phase 3: Clearing Out Level 3 (Upcoming)
Once the relocation is complete, any remaining materials on Level 3 will be disposed of, either through recycling or donation.

Beyond Work: Embracing Singapore
With weekends free, Chris and Jaiden have been exploring Singapore’s sights, culture, and food scene. From visiting local attractions to simply experiencing the city’s vibrant atmosphere, they’re making the most of their time abroad.
As the project continues, there’s still plenty of work ahead, but for now, it’s all in a day’s work.
